Today we are going to learn about:

 - How to use Simple present?
 - How to form Simple present sentences?
 - What expression we can use to express frequently activities?


1. Definition:

    - We use simple present  for habitual actions.
   
      E.g.    My friend often draws nice posters.
    
    - When we talk about things in general.
      
      E.g.    The sun rises in the east.

    -  fixed arrangements, scheduled events

       E.g.    The plane flies to London every Monday.
                  We have English on Tuesdays and Fridays.

    -  sequence of actions in the present (first – then, after that)
                     
       E.g.
       -  First I get up, then I have breakfast.
       - After school I switch on my computer, then I check my emails and after that I play my  favourite game.


 How to form sentences in Simple present

1. Affirmative:

Subject Verb          The Rest of the sentence
  I / you / we / they       speak / learn              English at home
    he / she / it     speaks / learns               English at home 
The spelling for the verb in the third person singular:

1. For verbs that end in -O, -CH, -SH, -SS, -X, or -Z we add -ES in the third person.

  • go – goes
  • catch – catches
  • wash – washes
  • kiss – kisses
2. For verbs that end in a consonant + Y, we remove the Y and add -IES.

  • marry – marries
  • study – studies
  • carry – carries
NOTE: For verbs that end in a vowel + Y, we just add -S.

  • play – plays
  • enjoy – enjoys
  • say – says

2. Negative: 

    Use the auxiliaries "don't - doesn't" and the verb in the base form.

3. Questions and short answers.


Adverbs of frequency:

We use Adverb of frequency in simple present to emphazise how often the action is taken.
